In January 2017, Red River donated $84,464 worth of computer equipment, furniture, construction materials and tools to Bastion to further bolster the nonprofit’s amenities and capabilities for its 73 residents. Along with this donation, Red River donated the materials necessary to landscape the areas surrounding the nonprofit’s residences and Wellness Center. The following month, 152 Red River employees traveled to New Orleans and volunteered to assemble the donated furniture in Bastion’s newly constructed Wellness Center. The volunteers also worked on landscaping the grounds around the new residences. In the end, Red River employees contributed over 1,200 hours to the projects. “We are extremely grateful for the compassion and empathy Red River has shown our organization and its mission,” said Dylan Tête, Executive Director and founder of Bastion Community of Resilience. “In order to continue to provide veterans and their families with the nurturing, caring environment we make available, it is vital that Bastion continues to find meaningful relationships with entities, like Red River, that truly care about the welfare and quality of life for our country’s veterans.” As a result of Red River’s first ever Chairman’s Challenge, Red River employees donated $4,310 to Bastion with the company matching these funds, plus an additional $1,610 contributed by non-employee donations. In total, Red River raised $10,230 in direct donations to support Bastion. “We were tremendously impressed by Bastion during our visit and continue to be inspired by their efforts to support returning veterans with the care and sense of community they need,” said Red River CEO Jeff Sessions. “It is an honor for Red River to work with Bastion to create a positive, lasting impact in New Orleans.” Bastion Community of Resilience is currently entering into Phase 2 of its growth plan. Land located in the Gentilly neighborhood of New Orleans has been recently acquired by the nonprofit and is currently being modified to make way for 20 new residential units.
