James Michalopoulos, continues to capture the heart of New Orleans in his paintings. He has been voted “Best Artist of the Year” by Gambit Weekly eight times. He also has been named the official artist of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival six times with his work earning a place on the event’s signature posters.
In addition to his generous donation to the auction, Michalopoulos has also gifted “Spezia,”a beautiful sunflower giclee valued at $3,000, to hang in the Bastion Community Center for residents to enjoy. This painting brings his total contribution to $31,000. “Bastion is exceedingly grateful for this extraordinary addition to the auction,” said Dylan Tête, founder and executive director of Bastion. “Thanks to the generosity of local businesses like Michalopoulos Gallery, we are able to further our efforts to restore families, expand social networks and promote mental and physical health among our residents. We want to thank James for his considerable donations of his work and St. Charles Ave Magazine for again making Bastion the beneficiary of their wonderful annual event, Wine, Dine & Design.” Bastion serves as a home and hub for supportive services for returning warriors and their families who require ongoing support. The Bastion approach restores families, reduces stress at home and expands social networks to strengthen resilience for our nation’s warriors. Wine, Dine & Design will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 3, from 6-8 p.m. at the Audubon Tea Room (6500 Magazine St, New Orleans, LA 70118). In addition to the live auction, guests will enjoy live music as well as 25 extravagantly decorated tables created by local retailers and designers. Wine, beer, cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will also be provided courtesy of Audubon Tea Room. Tickets to the preview party are $50 and now available for purchase.
